Our History

A Legacy of Dance in Emerald

DancEdge Emerald is proud to have a long and rich history of bringing the joy of dance to the Emerald community.

While Emerald Dance Centre was formally incorporated as an association in 2001, our story began much earlier. The organisation traces its roots back to the 1960s through the Emerald Ballet School and the Emerald Ballet Scholarship Fund Committee, both of which played an important role in providing dance education and opportunities for local children and families.

Over the decades, countless dancers have taken their first steps in our studios, formed lifelong friendships, developed confidence, and discovered a love of dance that has remained with them long after leaving the stage.

In 2013, Emerald Dance Centre expanded its reach by establishing a sister dance school in Barcaldine known as Barcy Edge. To reflect this exciting new chapter, the Emerald school adopted the name DancEdge Emerald, a name that continues to represent our organisation today.

Although the Barcaldine program is no longer operating, DancEdge Emerald remains a thriving part of the local community and continues to build on the strong foundations laid by the many volunteers, teachers, dancers, and families who have contributed to its success over the years.

As a not-for-profit, community-run organisation, DancEdge Emerald is still proudly managed by a dedicated committee of volunteers. Together with our Dance Director, teaching team, administration staff, and dance families, we remain committed to creating a welcoming environment where dancers of all ages and abilities can learn, grow, and belong.

Today, DancEdge Emerald continues to offer a diverse range of dance and movement programs while staying true to the values that have guided us for generations: community, inclusiveness, opportunity, and a love of dance.

We are incredibly grateful to the many families, teachers, committee members, volunteers, and dancers past and present who have helped shape our story. Your support, dedication, and passion have made DancEdge Emerald what it is today.

As we continue to uncover and celebrate more of our history, we look forward to sharing those stories and preserving the legacy of dance in Emerald for future generations.

Move. Grow. Belong.

Our history is still being researched and documented. We look forward to sharing more stories, photographs, and milestones from our journey as they become available.
